Prof. Duru Shah, MD FRCOG FCPS FICS FICOG FICMCH DGO DFP
Dr. Duru Shah is the Director, Gynaecworld the Center for Women’s Health and Fertility. Currently she is the Founder President of the “The PCOS Society” (India), a multidisciplinary Society which focuses its attention on the subject of PCOS besides being the Co-Chair of the “IMPART” Educational Program at the International Menopause Society (IMS). 3 years ago Dr Shah initiated her own NGO “The Women’s Empowerment Foundation” of which she is the Founder Trustee.
Dr. Shah has occupied the highest position as the President of FOGSI, (Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecological Societies of India), which is a 32000 strong professional body of Gynecologists, affiliated to the International Federation of Gynecology & Obstetrics (FIGO) which she has served as a Member of the Ethics Committee of FIGO for 6 years. Dr. Duru Shah has been involved in the field of Academics and has been the Chair of the Indian College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists (ICOG). She has initiated many educational programs for postgraduate students and clinicians under the banner of FOGSI & ICOG. Dr. Shah has been the Past President of the Indian Menopause Society and is the Immediate Past President of the Indian Society of Assisted Reproduction (ISAR) for 2017-2018
Dr. Shah has been the proud recipient of many Orations, Awards and Honours, the most prominent being the “FIGO-Distinguished Merit Award” in 2012 being the first and only Indian Recipient of this Prestigious Award and has been confered the “Honorary Fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetrics & Gynecology” for her contribution to women’s health. Dr. Duru Shah has also been conferred the OPPI recognition award by Hon. Ministry of State Smt. Anupriya Patel for outstanding contribution in the field of women’s health in July 2018.
On the Social front Dr. Shah’s passion has always been to focus on preventive reproductive and sexual health, especially in young girls and women as they are the mothers of tomorrow. Having been extremely successful with her “Growing up” and “Kishori” Programs for the youth, she is currently focusing her attention on “Gender Violence” and “Adolescent Reproductive and Sexual Health” through her NGO “The Women’s Empowerment Foundation” She has recently developed an App called “tooshytoask” which focuses on Reproductive and Sexual Health for the young who do not easily get this information from schools or parents at home.
“The Women’s Empowerment Foundation” works on the empowerment of the youth in Dharavi through the “Lakshya Project” and “empowering infertile couples” through her Center “Gynaecworld”
Her areas of clinical interest are Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Assisted Reproduction and Women’s Health.
