Dr. Sarita Shankaran is a trained Social Worker, who has been working in the area of child rights since the last 22 years. She has completed her PhD at Tata Institute of Social Sciences. Her study is titled- Social Integration- Experiences of Young Adults as Children of Women in Prostitution.
Her specific area of focus has been child protection- particularly child abuse, neglect, and trafficking. She has worked with Non- Governmental agencies at the local level and the State level. She has worked on strategizing and guiding interventions, creating indicators for monitoring, documenting, research, and advocacy. She has liaised with the Government in developing policies and bringing about reforms in the interest of the children. She has also published articles on the issues faced by children who leave care programs and edited and authored chapters for a training manual for childcare functionaries.
